Christmas trees and baubles for NCH residents!

As Advent starts, so do the festive celebrations across  Nottingham City Homes’  independent living schemes.

Today, 65 six and seven foot fire retardant Christmas trees, complete with baubles, have begun their journey around the city on the back of a Nottingham City Homes (NCH) van. As promised to residents in a letter about fire safety earlier this month, the trees are being delivered for the communal lounges in schemes throughout the city.

Home to thousands of older people across Nottingham, the NCH schemes all have communal lounges , which are used regularly for socialising, organised activities and events. As a responsible landlord, NCH wanted to make sure all residents could celebrate Christmas safely.  NCH has made sure all trees and baubles are fire retardant. So the team has brought Christmas to their front door, ensuring residents can decorate the communal areas festively and safely.

The first trees all arrived at Foxton Gardens in Bilborough this morning, overseen by Santa and Rudolph. NCH’s little elves will be busy all day loading up their vans and delivering each of the trees to their new homes.

Alan Houston, resident at Foxton Gardens said:“We’re really pleased to be getting a new tree and baubles for our communal lounge. Our own flats are decorated to our own style of course, but it’s lovely to still have a festive space for all of us to enjoy over the coming weeks. We are all more concerned about fire safety nowadays, we all want to feel safe in our homes.”

Once they’ve been used this year, the trees will be stored securely, ready to deck the halls of independent livings schemes across the city for years to come.

Nick Murphy, Chief Executive of Nottingham City Homes, said: “We promised residents we would do this in a letter setting out our approach to fire safety, which was sent out to residents in each scheme a few weeks ago. Fire safety is of paramount importance to us at Nottingham City Homes, and it’s vital we ensure - particularly with our more vulnerable residents - that we do as much as we can, to keep people safe.

“I hope all our residents in these schemes have a very happy – and safe – Christmas.”
