Welcome to equality and diversity.

Here at Nottingham City Homes we are committed to respond to the diverse housing needs of our customers and provide services that meet those needs.

Nottingham is home to more than 270,000 people. Residents are of all ages, races and ethnic backgrounds, disabled and non-disabled and from all faiths. As a city we have extremes of wealth and poverty, with some areas of Nottingham being among the most deprived in the country.

The diversity of Nottingham’s communities is a huge asset to the city. But some communities experience disadvantage and various kinds of discrimination that has a negative effect on their quality of life. Most often those affected are women, black and minority ethnic communities, disabled people, young and old people, lesbians, gay men, bisexual and transgender people and people with different faiths.

We believe Nottingham’s diversity is also one of our greatest strengths.

Nottingham City Homes is a major employer in Nottingham. Around 1,200 people work for us. We also spend millions of pounds every year to directly provide housing and services to the residents of Nottingham city. We are committed to taking equality and diversity issues very seriously and making it part of everything we do. We will take strong action to tackle discrimination, harassment, intimidation, and disadvantage.

We are also committed to achieving the highest standards in service delivery, involvement and decision making and employment practice. Equal access and opportunity for all sections of the community and our workforce is an integral part of this commitment.

Our new Equality and Diversity calendar

We have divided up the information into 3 sections:

• Blue - UK holidays and celebration/events such as May Day and Remembrance Day
• Green - Religious days such as Passover, St Andrews Day and Diwali
• Red - Awareness days such as World Water Week and Armed Forces Day
