Mobile game makes living in Nottingham fun
Nottingham City Homes is set to launch a brand new mobile phone game to help young people understand more about starting out in their own home.
There are many young people in need of council homes, but the majority start life in their new flat or house with very little knowledge about the basics of running a home.
As part of the City Council's Youth Month, we are offering our council tenants and home owners of the future a chance to learn more about setting up their own home by taking part in a new mobile phone game, In-Living.
The game will be launched as part of special events taking place at the Rescue Rooms on Wednesday 18 February from 12noon to 1pm.
There will be a short informal guide to using the game offered by our Tenant Involvement Team. We will then Bluetooth the game for free to those who want to try it out.
In-Living has been set up in a similar style to the popular portable Tamagotchi games. But instead of looking after your pet, you have to look after your own home. There are many choices for the player to make including deciding on their career path, paying bills, cleaning their home and washing the pots.
Living on your own for the first time can be daunting for anyone, but particularly for younger people. In-Living, aimed at 16-25 year-olds, helps answer a lot of questions and gives young people the chance to learn, possibly make mistakes, but learn how to fix them – all without having to actually go through it.
Gill Moy, Director of Housing at Nottingham City Homes, said:
Young people are very attuned to new technology and in particular the use of their mobile phones This game is a fantastic way to engage young people.
We hope In-Living will be a more accessible way for young people to learn more about the basic day to day tasks, bills and challenges you face when you have your own home.
Any young people interested in taking part are welcome to attend the launch of In-Living. For more information, or to get hold of the game, please contact the Tenant Involvement Team on 0115 9157380 or email gettinginvolved@nottinghamcityhomes.org.uk.
