Bite back and beat the recession!
As the recession hits its peak with unemployment high and the national debt rising, there are many people suffering as their personal finances feel the impact.
Those on low incomes and the elderly are some of the worst hit, but in Nottingham there is help available.
Nottingham City Homes'tenants and leaseholders can find out more about tackling debt, reducing bills, finding jobs and training opportunities at this year's Money Matters road show.
The event will take place at the Council House, Market Square, Nottingham, on Wednesday 29 April from 10am to 4pm. More than 50 organisations will be on hand to offer advice and guidance to help tenants beat the recession.
The unemployed and pensioners are particularly feeling the impact of the recession as redundancies increase and interest rates drop. There will be many organisations on hand to help tackle these particular problems. Nottingham City Homes' Financial Inclusion Officers will also be available to help look at tackling rent arrears and seeking benefits.
See below just a handful of the organisations involved:
- Debt Advice Service
- Citizens Advice Bureau
- Pension Service
- Age Concern
- Job Centre Plus.
Gill Moy, Director of Housing at Nottingham City Homes, said:
This is the second time we have held an event like this in Nottingham. Last time we were able to help hundreds of people with their money matters. There is help out there and I hope those tenants and leaseholders in need of extra support will take some time on April 29 to come and talk to the countless organisations that are here to help.
Tenants and leaseholders will also receive a copy of the Money Matters newsletter by the end of April, which features:
- Advice and guidance on benefits
- Information on low-cost days out for the family
- An introduction to the Rents team
- Advice on how to borrow and save money wisely
- How to avoid loan sharks
- Help for leaseholders dealing with debt.
