Rent increase to be lower

In March this year we said that your rent could rise by 5%.

However, last month good news also came from the Government. It offered to help councils reduce their rent rises by offering extra funding. This means that the rent rise will now be only 3/1%.

A group of tenants sit on our Rents Panel and work with us and Nottingham City Council to look at rent issues. The council spoke to them about the rise in rent and what it meant to tenants.

Councillor Jon Collins, Leader of Nottingham City Council said:

The formal decision to reduce the 2009 rent increase will be made on 21 April and letters setting out the new rent rates will be sent to all tenants by early May. The change in your rent will be backdated to 30 March 2009, or the start of your tenancy if it began after this date. This will mean that you will be able to benefit from the lower than notified rent increase for the whole year.

The level of service charges, added separately to your rent account, is not affected by this change.

If you receive housing benefit, this will be recalculated to take accoutn of the changes and a new notice will be sent to you.

If you are concerned about how to pay your rent, debt and managing your money, please contact our Rents Team on 0115 915 4920 (minicom 0115 915 1829). We will sit down with you and see where we can help you save money, get on top of your debt and look at the benefits you may be entitled to.
