Housing available to make independent living a reality
Housing demand in Nottingham far outweighs supply and with more than 12,000 people on the housing register, it can sometimes take years to find the home you want.
But if you are elderly or more vulnerable, you could find the home you want quicker than you think. In Nottingham we still have a number of supported housing properties available to let.
Older people often have concerns about losing their independence. But in supported housing, residents can maintain an independent lifestyle, with the peace of mind that help is on hand should they need it.
We will be hosting a special event on Monday 7th September at the Council House, Market Square, Nottingham, from 10am to 3pm to help people learn more about supported housing.
Members of our team will be on hand to offer help and advice, as well as provide visitors with key information about each scheme and the individual properties available.
They will be joined by representatives from Age Concern, Nottingham City Council, The Pensions Service, Framework, Telecare, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and many other city partners.
Supported housing gives elderly, disabled or vulnerable people the chance to live independently, with the peace of mind that there is help nearby.
Properties are supported by a scheme manager who is on hand if tenants need help or support. They can also be supported through the Nottingham-on-Call service. This is a Telecare alarm system that allows residents to alert us if there is a problem, they have a fall or need medical assistance. A dedicated 24-hour call centre answers the alarm calls and sorts out an appropriate response.
We have a range of properties from high rise and low rise blocks of flats to bungalows.
Gill Moy, Director of Housing Services, said:
Supported housing is an ideal solution for many elderly or vulnerable people. It gives people the chance to live independent lives, with the added support as and when they need it.
It is not just about having the support of a scheme manager or the on-call service. The communities in our sheltered housing complexes are strong and supportive. We often hold social events to give residents a chance meet their neighbours and join in the activities on offer. Not everyone chooses to join in, but those who do seem to really enjoy themselves.
If you think you or a member of your family could benefit from supported housing, why not come along to see us on 7th September.
