BBC Radio Nottingham experiments to save energy

As a company we have again committed to BBC Radio Nottingham's energy experiment.

As a company we have committed again to taking part in this year's BBC Radio Nottingham Energy Experiment.

Last year we joined thousands across the county who took part to see how much electricity was saved across Nottinghamshire. In February 2009 a total of 14,150 kilowatt hours of electricity were saved - the equivalent to 425,000 boiling kettles.

It will take place for the second time on Wednesday, 24 February 2010.

To take part, simply avoid using anything electrical between 9pm on Wednesday 24 February and 6am the following morning, by switching off appliances at the plug and turning off lights.

BBC Radio Nottingham's Andy Whittaker, said:

It's not about sitting in the dark though, just try not to use anything electrical that you don't actually need for as much of the time period as you can.

Central Networks will monitor what difference is made in power consumption during the experiment and reveal the statistics on Andy's show at the beginning of March.

So when you leave work on Wednesday, please remember to turn off as much as you can at the plug, and make sure all lights are turned off - just remember to keep important appliances like fridges on!
