Fine for fly tip pair (Notts police press release)

A husband and wife have been prosecuted for fly tipping after being caught on CCTV.

Kevin Munro, 48 and Mrs Sarah Munro, 40, from Hazel Hill Crescent in Bestwood were shown leaving bags of rubbish on Wednesday 6th May 2009 at Beckhampton Road recycling centre in Bestwood Park, a known fly tipping hotspot.

On the 5th may 2010, both parties pleaded guilty to the offence at Nottingham Magistrates court, and were fined £100 each, plus £15 each victims surcharge, ordered to pay £200 towards the investigation costs and £80 towards the clear up cost. The £395 each will be paid at £60 a month until the debt is cleared.

Christine Walker, Enforcement and Project Officer for Community Protection said:

After they were found guilty, the Chair of the bench went on to say that she was especially disappointed with Mr Munro as he had been a refuse collector and knew full well how costly it was to clear up fly tipped waste.

Both were reminded that if they failed to pay they could end up in prison. The Chair of the bench then finished by saying that the court had been lenient and she hoped that they had both learnt their lesson and would not fly tip again.
