Fine for food store (Notts police press release)
A Nottingham store has been prosecuted for seven food offences after out of date patties and packets of bacon were found on display for sale during a routine inspection.
A Trading Standards Officer inspected Flint Stores Ltd, of Ransom Rd, St Ann’s on the 15th October 2009 and 29 items were found that were beyond their labelled use-by date.
The company pleaded guilty to seven offences at Nottingham Magistrates court on 24 May 2010 and were ordered to pay a fine of £2,004, costs of £807 and a victim surcharge of £15.
Lorraine Raynor, Head of Environmental Health and Trading Standards said:
The Court felt that the offences were aggravated by the comparatively large number of items being out of date compared to those that were in date and available for sale on the dates in question. The Court concluded that Flint Stores Ltd had extremely poor management from the outset and completely inadequate procedures for dealing with the rotation and checking of its stock. This in turn posed a high risk to the public.
Out of date food can be harmful to a person’s health and it is vital that shops sell food of good quality, properly stored and within their labelled use-by dates. Nottingham City Council is committed to protecting the health of Nottingham’s citizens.
