Nuisance neighbour evicted from home (Notts police press release)

An anti-social resident, who made his neighbours’ lives a misery, has been evicted from his Nottingham City Homes’ (NCH) property.

Martin Crofts moved into Bentinck Court, Sneinton, in July 2009, and just five months later, Nottingham City Council’s Community Protection department, started to receive complaints about Croft’s behaviour and the behaviour of his visitors.

Fellow tenants complained that Crofts and his friends shouted from the high-rise premises, obstructed stairways and entrances with bicycles and shopping trolleys full of scrap metal, and harassed neighbours by attempting to sell them items including gold.

Many residents also complained they were disturbed and frightened by Crofts’ visitors who rang neighbours intercoms at night to gain access to the building. One neighbour also saw Crofts damage his own front door with a hammer and was left fearing for her safety.

At the start of the year Community Protection and NCH staff warned Croft on several occasions and, after the behaviour continued, obtained an injunction to enter his flat.

As a result of continued anti-social behaviour, the Community Protection ASB team applied to the courts for an Outright Possession Order, which was granted on March 6, 2010.

After a statutory notice period Croft was forcibly evicted from his home yesterday (Thursday June 3, 2010).

Abu Belim, of Community Protection, said:

I hope this affirmative action by our ASB team means that Bentinck Court residents will now be left in peace by these individuals. They should no longer have to worry about being harassed and scared by the likes of Martin Crofts and his associates.

In Crofts case I think he thought we would just go away, but we will always work hard to deal with anti-social behaviour in Nottingham, and where necessary remove the problem to stop it from affecting law abiding peoples lives.
