Making time for child safety

Fire fighters across Nottinghamshire will be giving children important messages about how to stay safe and spot potential fire hazards as part of National Child Safety Week, 21–27 June. (Notts Fire and Rescue release)

As part of the RiskWatch programme, crews will be visiting schools to deliver fire safety messages using a new range of interactive resources to ensure all children, whatever their ability, are able to learn about fire safety in a fun and imaginative way.

Education Team Manager Catherine Bostock said:

The RiskWatch programme is used throughout the school year to deliver fire safety messages to children. Child Safety Week allows us the opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of keeping children safe from fire and burns. Firefighters will be able to use new resources which are designed to be accessible to children with a variety of learning needs including visual and hearing impairment, autism, physical difficulties and learning difficulties.

The Services’ education team are also supplying every children’s centre with child safety related items which can act as a starting point for discussion and for displays to aid parents and carers interested in learning more about child safety.
