Be a Board Member – help us build a bright future for Nottingham

Nottingham City Homes (NCH) is looking for four new Board Members to help make the key decisions about the future of the company

Being a Board Member is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the management of a £120m a year business. Board Members act as non-executive directors of Nottingham City Homes. Together they make key decisions about budgets, services, strategies and policies. Although it is an unpaid role, being a Tenant or Independent Board Member is rewarding and vital to the smooth running of the company.

There are two tenant Board Member vacancies. Tenants or leaseholders may apply, applications will be shortlisted and invited to attend an interview. Successful candidates will then stand for election and are voted in by their fellow tenants and leaseholders. We are a tenant-led organisation as our Chair of the Board, Janet Storar, is a tenant herself.

Janet said:

I was elected Chair of the Board last September, having previously been a Board Member for a number of years. I’m also a Nottingham City Homes tenant, and I’m hugely proud that we now have a Board that is tenant-led and playing a leading role in shaping our services.

The input of tenants and leaseholders is so important and I would encourage anyone who has a keen interest to apply for a place on the Board.

The final two vacancies are for independent Board Members, individuals with a housing, finance or construction background may apply, applications will be shortlisted. Successful candidates will be invited to attend an interview.

Being a Board member will require a level of time and commitment. From attending Board meetings and the AGM, to sitting on sub committees and forums, Board members get involved and help drive forward a number of events and activities throughout the year.

Chief Executive of Nottingham City Homes, Chris Langstaff, said:

New Board members brings new faces and new ideas – helping us realise our vision of creating homes and places where people want to live.

We are now a ‘two star’ organisation with ‘excellent prospects for improvement’. We aim to become a ‘three star’ company providing consistently excellent services – and it is vital our new Board members provide the insight, expertise and foresight to reach this target.

We are also keen to increase the diversity of our Board. We welcome interest from all tenants and leaseholders. Black and minority ethnic, women and young people are currently under represented on our Board and we are encouraging people who represent these groups to apply.

For more information on becoming a member of the Board, please contact the Company Secretary on 0115 915 7212 or email boardmeetings@nottinghamcityhomes.org.uk.
