NCH starts work on landmark new homes (photocall)

Work to build the first council houses in Nottingham for more than 20 years is now well underway.

Eight new properties are being built on a disused garage site on Widecombe Lane, Clifton. The work is being done by Brammall Construction, working in close partnership with Nottingham City Homes.

The first council homes in Clifton were built nearly sixty years ago, with the estate being a landmark project across the country. This year's build is not on such a grand scale as this, but it is the start of an era in Nottingham that will see new council properties built across the city.

The site in Clifton has been derelict for some time and has been a hotspot for anti-social behaviour. The new homes will help eradicate this problem and provide much needed family-sized accommodation for people on the city’s housing register.

It will also provide training opportunities to the Nottingham City Homes apprentices, currently working with our contractors on the Secure Warm Modern programme.

At least ten of the apprentices training with us will get the chance to work on the new-build site and get the skills they need to pass certain modules in their NVQs. This is invaluable experience for these young people and a perfect building block for their future career.

This build has been made possible thanks to funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA). They have also funded two more future builds in Bulwell and Bilborough, which are set to start this summer.

This is a photocall. Details are below.
