Jail time for drunk after racist abuse (NCC and Notts police release)

A man who racially attacked a Community Protection Officer (CPO) has received a custodial sentence.

Christopher Belton 39, of Mansfield Road in Nottingham was given 12 days prison time by Nottingham Magistrates Court yesterday after the incident which took place on Tuesday 17th August.

Two CPOs were called to an incident of a man who had been found passed out on York Street near Victoria Bus station at 17.43pm on 17th August.

The man was found intoxicated and barely able to stand. After being helped to his feet by the male CPO, Belton turned to the female CPO and racially abused her, using the words 'paki' and 'nig nog'.

At this point, two police officers arrived and arrested Belton who was remanded in custody until the hearing the next day.

Richard Antcliff, Head of Neighbourhood Enforcement for Community Protection said:

We are pleased that the courts took this so seriously. No-one deserves to be abused as they do their job and it's pleasing to see that this individual got the custodial sentence he deserved. We wont accept our staff being abused and will always push for though toughest penalties.
