Major operation to sweep up waste cheats (NCC and Notts police release)

Nottingham City Council is taking part in a major operation on Wednesday 25th August 2010 targeting offenders of fly tipping, and those with unroadworthy vehicles.

They will also be targeting drivers who use red diesel and those who might be unregistered waste carriers.

Sergeant Howard Kirkland of the Canning Circus beat said:

The operation aims to disrupt criminal activities and to seize vehicles to deny criminals the use of the roads. Police will be intercepting targeted vehicles and bringing them into the checkpoint.

In previous operations conducted this year, vehicles have been seized for having no valid insurance, drivers arrested for driving under the influence of drink or drugs, or whilst disqualified and drivers prosecuted for carrying waste without a valid licence.

The operation will take place at the Forest recreation ground on Gregory Boulevard, between the hours of 9am and 4pm and will be run in partnership with Nottinghamshire Police, HMCS (Her Majesties Court Services) VOSA (Vehicle Inspectorate Authority), Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR Notts Police), Enviro-crime Team at Nottingham City Council, Taxi Licensing and UK Borders Agency.

Police outriders will be scouting for vehicles on roads in the surrounding areas including the main trunk roads and escorting them back to the checkpoint for the checks to be carried out by all the different agencies.
