Nottingham nightclub promoter becomes second in the country to receive flyering fine (NCC and Notts police release)

The promotions manager of a local nightclub has become the second person in Nottingham to be fined for allowing flyering staff to distribute promotional material without displaying the correct documentation.

Ricardo Dacosta, promotions manager for The Lizard Lounge nightclub on St Mary's Gate in Nottingham was ordered to pay total costs of £315 after he was caught on the 6th February 2010 allowing nightclub representatives to distribute free printed material without valid permits.

Dacosta was sentenced at Nottingham Magistrates Court on the 16th August and although did not attend, returned a guilty plea by post.

Richard Antcliff, Head of Neighbourhood Enforcement for Community Protection said:

This is the second such prosecution in less than a month. This is also only the second time in the country that the legislation has been used in this way.

On 9th August 2010, Louise Sharp, general manager for Gatecrasher nightclub on Queens Street, Nottingham was ordered to pay total costs of £865 following four offences of allowing nightclub representatives to distribute free printed material without valid permits. The permits are free to obtain and can be requested from Public Health at Nottingham City Council.

Christine Walker, Enforcement Officer for Community protection said:

We will continue to crackdown on those who don't respect the rules. Having a system for monitoring the type and frequency of promotional literature being distributed means that we can clamp down on those allowing discarded flyers to litter our streets.
