Eviction warning for NCH tenant after drugs found (NCC release)

A Nottingham City Homes tenant has been warned that she faces losing her home if she breaches the terms of her tenancy agreement.

Susan Vellenoweth, 61 of Warner St in Radford appeared at Nottingham County Court on the 4th Jan 2011 and was issued with a suspended possession order, placing her under conditions that if breached may lead to her eviction.

Civil enforcement action was taken by Community Protection after a police operation at Vellenoweth's address, in which a male was arrested and found to be in possession of cannabis. Community Protection, working in partnership with Nottingham City Homes and Nottinghamshire Police used evidence from the operation to apply for Possession Proceedings. Vellenoweth claimed not to have any knowledge of drugs use at the property.

Richard Antcliff, Head of Neighbourhood Enforcement for Community Protection said:

The courts have again made it clear that not being aware of serious criminal behaviour taking place in your home is not a defence and that responsibility falls on you to know what is taking place under your own roof. Community Protection will continue to work with the police and Nottingham City Homes to tackle drugs within our communities and take enforcement action wherever possible.

Kim De Vergori, Assistant Director of Housing Services at Nottingham City Homes, said:

We take a tough stance against anti-social behaviour and crime on our estates. If Mrs Vellenoweth does breach the court order within the next twelve months, we will seek to evict her. I hope she will now abide by the terms of her tenancy agreement.
