Tenant ordered to clean up!

A Nottingham City Homes tenant has been ordered by the courts to clear her garden or face eviction.

Marie Maher of Firbeck Road, Wollaton, has been given a deadline to get her untidy garden in order. If she fails to cooperate, we can seek to evict her.

We are committed to improving the look of our estates and working alongside our city partners to create places where people want to live.

Miss Maher failed to clear and tidy her front and back garden, despite a number of requests and warnings. As a result we were forced to take her to court.

The judge ordered her to cut back the grass and hedges and dispose of all garden waste. She was given 28 days to carry out her order. She was also told to pay costs of £707.

Gill Moy, Director of Housing Services at Nottingham City Homes, said:

Residents quite rightly become frustrated by the minority of tenants who have untidy and neglected gardens, which does have a negative impact on the area.

It is a tenancy condition that gardens must be maintained to an acceptable standard and we do work with our customers to encourage that, but when they do not comply, court action may be taken against them

If tenants and leaseholders do have concerns about untidy gardens in their area, they should contact their local housing patch manager.
