Spring into action for the over 60s (NCC and Age UK release)
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Age UK has launched its new Springboard Nottingham website.
www.springboardnottingham.co.uk is for people 60.
It is a signposting service, funded by Nottingham City Council and managed by Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The aim of the service is to help older people remain safe and independent in their own home by enabling them to access services they may not have been awar of, or been unsure how to contact.
There are 34,500 people agaed 65 or over in Nottingham. By 2020 this will have risen to 36,400 which represents nearly 11% of the city's population.
Since the launch of the signposting service in May 2010, it has helped over 700 people access help from 12 partner agencies including The Falls Prevention Service, Pensions Service, Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue and Age UK. This great example of successful partnership working across Nottingham means the service has the potential to help hundreds more people aged 60 plus.
Nationally nearly 2 million pensioners still live in poverty. Nearly half (49%) of people over 65 in Nottingham receive at least one state benefit as well as their pension. The yearly projected total benefit take up for older people accessed through the signposting service is £142,842.
This new website is aimed at the over 60s living within Nottingham city and their careres and families. It aims to be the most often visited website for older people to access useful information such as available services, news and events, things to do, money matters, health and fitness, staying safe and working/volunteering.
John Anderton, Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire's Business Development Manager said:
The signposting service is already delivering posiitive outcomes for the most vulnerable people in later life within Nottingham. As an information hub providing links to a wide range of service providers and opportunities, we are confident the Springboard Nottingham website will become the most valuable web-bsed resource for older people in Nottingham.
Councillor Eunice Campbell, Nottingham City Council's Portfolio Holder for Adult Support and Health said:
More older people than ever before are now online and this new website in a great way to help Nottingham residents and their families find useful information on local services and things to do.
