Chris Langstaff announces retirement (NCH release)

The Chief Executive of Nottingham City Homes, Chris Langstaff, has announced his intention to retire in six months time.

On Thursday 31st March, Chris informed the Nottingham City Homes Board that he intended to retire on 7th October this year. He made his announcement to staff earlier this week, and will inform tenants and leaseholders through the company's newsletter next week.

Why now?

In the past four years we have achieved two stars, with excellent prospects for improvement in our housing inspection, increased customer satisfaction by 20%, and made huge improvements in all our services.

In March this year we signed a ten year partnering agreement with Nottingham City Council, which shows their confidence in our ability to continue to deliver excellent services.

Chris will retire on October 7th after more than four years with Nottingham City Homes. He said:

This has been a difficult decision for me and I will be very sad to leave.

However, over the past four years, the company has gone from strength to strength. I now feel confident that we have built strong foundations - and it is the right time for a new Chief Executive to lead the company into the next phase.

I have really enjoyed my time at NCH. With the support of our staff, the Board, our partners and involved tenants, we have achieved some fantastic results and transformed the company into one we can be proud of.

Jane Todd, Chief Executive of Nottingham City Council, said:

Chris Langstaff has steered Nottingham City Homes into a two star organisation providing good quality services for tenants and working hard to modernise council housing and improve local neighbourhoods. He is leaving a company that is well-poised to move forward and meet the challenges ahead.

What next?

Over the next few months Chris and the Executive Management Team will be making sure the company is in the best possible position to hand over to a new Chief Executive.

They will be preparing for the changes to the way public sector housing is funded in the future, as well as overseeing the implementation stages of modernisation programmes in the repairs service and housing services.

The Board's HR Committee met on Monday 4th April and agreed the process and panel members for the recruitment of a new Chief Executive. They hope to have made an appointment by the time Chris takes his retirement.
