NCH in UK's top 100 employers! (NCH release)
Nottingham City Homes has been named in the top 100 employers across the UK for delivering apprenticeships.
The list, put together by the National Apprenticeship Service and City and Guilds, was announced last night at the annual Apprenticeship Awards in London.
In good company
The top 100 includes big business like BT, Balfour Beatty, Severn Trent and Morrisons supermarkets. A special supplement featuring the top 100 appeared in The Sun and The Times newspapers today.
We currently have more than 100 apprentices working with us at Nottingham City Homes, from plumbers, electricians and plasterers, to business administration apprentices. In fact we are set to offer a number of business administration positions later this year.
Chris Langstaff, Chief Executive of Nottingham City Homes, said:
We are committed to creating stronger communities in Nottingham. Our role is not just about managing estates, it's about supporting the people living on them.
We want to provide work to local people, which is why our apprenticeships are only open to those living within the Nottingham city boundary. Our apprentices truly reflect the diverse communities we work in.
By providing apprenticeships we are investing in an individual's future, while gaining long-term benefits to our company. Our apprentices are the future of Nottingham City Homes.
Nottingham apprentice in national finals
Nottingham City Homes Apprentice plumber, Helen Cort, was named East Midlands Apprentice of the Year back in May. She represented NCH at the national finals last night (Wednesday 29th June) and came runner-up.
The 39-year-old, single mum of four, started work with Nottingham City Homes last year to pursue a career in plumbing.
She works in our Voids repairs team and is currently studying towards her NVQ Level 2 in plumbing. She juggles her work and studying with supporting her family.
Helen said:
I started work with Nottingham City Homes last year as an apprentice plumber, after spending the last 14 years bringing up my four children on my own.
Getting this job has had a huge effect on my life. My kids now have a happier, more confident, more focused and determined mum, which makes for a happier home. I feel I have taught them that you have to work hard to achieve the things you want.
Residents across the city should look out for future apprenticeship opportunities coming up soon.
