Arsonist that ruined Christmas is evicted (NCH release)

An arsonist who set fire to his own flat on Christmas Eve has been evicted from his Nottingham City Homes property.

Michael Lindo, 44, was recently sentenced to six years imprisonment for arson after setting fire to his flat in Argyle Court, Radford, on Christmas Eve last year.

The fire continued into the early hours of Christmas morning, but luckily nobody was injured. Staff from Nottingham City Homes were on site over Christmas Day and Boxing Day, making sure residents were safe and back in their homes.

The fire service later concluded that the fire had been started deliberately, which prompted a police investigation. Mr Lindo handed himself into the police and was charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

Mr Lindo was evicted from the property last month following Police and Community Protection evidence and is now serving a custodial sentence.

Gill Moy, Director of Housing Services at Nottingham City Homes, said:

This man not only endangered the lives of those living around him, he ruined the festive season for his fellow residents.

I hope his eviction and custodial sentence has helped local residents feel safer in their homes and confident that we will take action against the perpetrators of crime and anti-social behaviour.

Richard Antcliff, Head of Neighbourhood Enforcement for Community Protection, said;

The severity of the sentence highlights the seriousness of this case. Possession of the property was a given but we are just thankful no one was seriously hurt.
