Violent shoplifter banned from Sneinton (NCC release)

A shoplifter with a history of violent and racially abusive behaviour has been banned from Sneinton for a year.

The order was handed out by Nottingham Magistrates Court on the 18 Aug and lasts until 17 Aug 2013.

James Anderson, 50 of Bentinick Road Hostel, subjected staff and customers of business in Sneinton to months of abuse and over a six month period, was witnessed intimidating staff on 13 different occasions, including threatening to set his dog on shop workers, using racially abusive language and on more than one occasion threatening to bite a member of staff.

On every occasion, Anderson became aggressive after being challenged for shoplifting items.

Richard Antcliff, Head of Neighbourhood Enforcement for Community Protection. said:

Anderson is an aggressive and very nasty shoplifter who when challenged threatens to bite, hit or set dogs on staff of various shops across Sneinton and in particular the Co-op on Sneinton Dale.

The order bans Anderson from entering Sneinton and also from being abusive or threatening in any retail premises across Nottingham City. Any breaches of the order may lead to a prison sentence.

Councillor Alex Norris, Portfolio Holder for Area Working, Cleansing and Community Safety said:

This kind of order helps to control behaviour by making a certain action, for instance entering a specific area, illegal and therefore an arrestable offence. If Anderson breaches his order, he will be put back before the courts.
