Aspley woman evicted from home after ammunition and drugs discovered (NCC release)

A woman has been evicted from her Aspley home after her property was searched as part of an Operation Vanguard raid.

Claire Grant, 25, of Hilcot Drive in Aspley was issued with an Outright Possession Order on 12 August 2011 at Nottingham County Court.

On 30 July 2010, officers from Operation Vanguard searched three addresses after receiving intelligence surrounding a drug network. After searching Miss Grant's property, the officers uncovered a quantity of cash and cannabis at the address. Grant's partner, Jason Jack, 29, of the same address then agreed to show officers where he obtained the cannabis from. This resulted in a larger find of cannabis at a separate location.

Following the conclusion of further investigations, Operation Vanguard then arrested Mr Jack at Miss Grant's address on 8th December 2010. During this arrest they found him in possession of a quantity of ammunition.

This information was passed to Community Protection who began Possession Proceedings against Miss Grant.

Councillor Alex Norris, Portfolio Holder for Area Working, Cleansing and Community Safety said:

Those who choose to choose to break the law will be dealt with and on this occasion Miss Grant has paid the penalty. Social housing is a privilege, not a right and Miss Grant will now be placed on the Exclusion Register, preventing her from accessing any social housing in the future.

Detective Inspector Leigh Sanders said:

We will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure that all enforcement opportunities are progressed. Those who commit crime need to understand that there are consequences. Not just for themselves but for other family members who will pay the price for their selfish actions.

Gill Moy, Director of Housing Services at Nottingham City Homes, said:

We work closely with the police and community protection on Operation Vanguard in the fight against drugs and criminal activity on our estates.Eviction is one of the strongest actions taken against the perpetrators of these crimes. We want the minority of tenants who are involved in criminal activity to think twice – if you are found with drugs or ammunition in your property, we will seek to evict you.
