Getting involved

How you can get involved in decisions about your housing service.

Involving tenants and leaseholders in housing service improvements is vital to our success. You can get involved in how we provide services so we can be sure we are delivering a service which meets your needs. get involved picture

There are lots of different ways to get involved and you can spend as much or as little time as you like with us.

So, make sure your voice is heard! Take a look at what you can get involved in....

Annual conference

Tenants and leaseholders from all over the city come along to discuss plans for the year ahead. It's a great opportunity to express your point of view and to influence how we deliver our services.
Time needed: one day, once a year. Involvement type: consultation.

Home panel

Join our Home panel and you can influence what we do (without leaving your chair!). We will send you occasional surveys about various issues or invite you to a focus group.
Time needed: 1 or 2 hours a few times a year. Involvement type: consultation.

'Walkabout' inspection

We organise regular 'walkabout' estate inspections for our tenants and leaseholders. Join residents to walk your estate with Nottingham City Homes staff. You can point out problems and tell us there and then about the improvements you want to see.
Time needed: 2 hours every 3 months. Involvment type: influencing services.

Tenants and Residents Association (TRA)

Come along with a friend or neighbour to a recognised TRA meeting to discuss and take action on the issues in your area – everybody is welcome.
Time needed: 2 hours a month. Involvement type: influencing services.

Customer Communications Panel

The Customer Communications Panel ia a team of tenants and leaseholders meet once a month or so to advise us on our newsletter, website and any other publicity materials we are producing. The group make sure they are written in your language and reflect your interests.
Time needed: 2 hours once a month. Involvement type: influencing services.

Forums

Our service forums monitor our services to help make sure they are up to scratch, for example:

  • repairs
  • anti social behaviour
  • rents

We want to make sure our services reflect the diverse needs of our customers, so we have set up people forums to give you the opportunity to tell us what we could do to improve services:

  • Disabled people and their carers (Homes 4 Us)
  • Leaseholders
  • Young people
  • Black and minority ethnic people
  • Sheltered housing tenants and Telecare users
  • People in temporary or supported housing.

Time needed: 2 hours every two months. Involvement type: scrutiny.

Area panels covering the whole of Nottingham

Area panels are made up of tenants and leaseholders. They scrutinise our work and tell us how we should develop our services. Held in local venues, meetings take place six times a year and last for around two hours.
Time needed: 2 hours every two months. Involvement type: scrutiny.

Tenant Service Inspectors

Tenant Service Inspectors are very much on the front line and fully involved in improving every aspect of our service. They form a team that carries out surveys, conducts mystery shopping of services, inspects empty properties and takes part in planning and inspection team meetings - and much more.
Time needed: around 4 hours a month (but could be more or less). Involvement type: scrutiny.

Tenant and Leaseholder Congress (TLC)

The TLC is group is made up of representatives from our recognised Tenant and Resident Associations as well as from our service forums. It's a chance for customers to meet with others working to improve and shape services, as well as board members and senior managers.
Time needed:. 2 hours a month. Involvemeny type: strategic and decision making.

Become a customer board member

The five tenant or leasehold board members are, rightly, the biggest single group in a 12-strong board that also includes four independent members and three council members

Any tenant or leaseholder can stand for election to the Board and be voted in by other tenants and leaseholders.
Time needed: up to 2 hours a week. Involvement type: strategic and decision making.
