Asbestos

Asbestos is an insulation material and has been used in homes over many years.

It is not used much today and, as long as it is not disturbed, does not need removing.

We aim to have all domestic council properties surveyed for asbestos materials under Nottingham's Decent Homes Standard by 2010. Homes across the city are being surveyed on a ward by ward basis. When all properties in a ward have been visited, all tenants will be written to with information about any asbestos materials in your home.

The attached shows:

• a sample letter to tenant
• a sample of survey data

Under the Control of Asbestos Regulations Act 2006 we have a responsibility to hold this information so we can make the information available to our customers, contractors and staff. We must also regularly inspect communal areas that do contain asbestos materials. We use licensed asbestos removal contractors to remove and dispose of asbestos materials should this need to be carried out.
