Secure Warm Modern
This is our programme to make sure every council home is a decent place to live.
Our Secure Warm Modern programme will make sure every council home in Nottingham is a decent place to live.
Changes to the decent homes programme
In October last year the funding for decent homes work was reduced nationally.
This meant we had to re-bid for the rest of the funding we needed from a much smaller pot of money.
- We bid for £93m for 2011-15 and were awarded £86m.
- Nottingham City Council.have allocated us £5.7m for 2012. We hope they will allocate us a further £11.5m over the next three years
- The Government have promised us £86m over the next four years (2012-2015). Funding for 2011-12 and 2012-13 are guaranteed, but the final two years (2013-14 and 2014-15) are indicative which means we may not get what we have asked for.
Although the total amount is less than we were originally allocated, our highly efficient programme means we can deliver improvements to all homes that need it across the city by March 2015. In fact, the Homes and Communities agency (national housing and regeneration organisation) told us our programme offers "very good value for money" and is one of the most efficient in the country.
What's happening next?
- Nottingham Secure - the installation of new windows will be completed across the majority of the city by the end of March 2012*
- Warmth for Nottingham - the heating programme will be completed across the majority of the city by the end of March 2013*
- Modern Living - kitchens and bathroom installations will be completed by the end of March 2015
Take a look at our revised timetable map for more information.
If you live in the Meadows
Some of the above timescales may be different - see * above. The original Secure Warm Modern programme did not include improvements tot he Meadows as these were due to be done in a large separate regeneration programme. This is not now going ahead so we had to bid for extra money to do this work under the Secure Warm Modern scheme.
We need to survey all homes in the Meadows to see what work is needed and then the programme will start (windows from summer 2011, heating from 2013 and finally kitchens and bathrooms in 2015).
Our contractor partners
We are currently working with a number of contractor partners as well as our own Property Services section. New partners will be invited to bid to do work for us as the programme progresses. Find out more in our section on 'Contractor partners'
Take a look at how our contractor partner installed Baxi boilers at the Woodlands in Radford.
'Dragon's den' contractor community projects
Find out what went on in our 'dragon's den' and who our contractor partners helped out with £5000 grants.
'One in a Million' scheme
We are working together with our partners to develop this unique scheme. For every million pounds of work we give to one of these companies, they recruit a trades or administration member of staff. More about '1 in a Million'.
