Dragon's Den transforms community groups

Last year we asked community projects to pitch for a share of grants put up by our Secure Warm Modern contractors.

We advertised in our newspaper - 'News from Nottingham City Homes' for three projects that could benefit from £5,000 each.

Our Secure Warm Modern contractors collectively funded the grants and became our panel of 'dragons'.

A range of community groups put forward their bids and six were shortlised to pitch their ideas, just like in the TV series. They were looking for projects which have a positive impact on the local community. The three winning initiatives were chosen because of their innovative ideas and potential to promote community cohesion in the city. The winners were:

Pro-vision

This is a not-for-profit organisation providing free clothes to homeless people, single parent families and people fleeing domestic violence. The grant will be used to open a second-hand shop in Sneinton where the public will be able to drop off any donations. It will also host workshops on CV and letter writing skills, interview preparation and practical driving skills.

Kings Meadows

This comunity group will use the grant to open a soft play community cafe in the Meadows. The cafe will provide affordable healthy food and a safe environment for children to play. This will help contibute to bringing the community together.

Aspley Park Football Club

The grant will help the club access indoor facilities during the winter and set up the 'mini kickerz' project for local children (boys and girls from four to eight years old). The funding will also help train adults to be football coaches and to buy kits and equipment for future teams.

We will let you know more about how these projects are progressing in the future.
