Housing benefit
If you are a council tenant and you are on a low income, you may qualfy for housing benefit.
How do I apply and how is it paid?
You need to apply for housing benefit by filling in a form. It is your responsibility to make sure your rent is paid. If you are a council tenant and housing benefit covers all or part of your rent, it will be paid direct to your rent account. You will then have to pay the difference between the housing benefit you have been awarded and the amount of the rent. You can do this in a number of ways - take a look at our information on how to pay your rent.
For more information visit Department for Work and Pensions website (housing benefit).
How can I find out how much housing benefit I could get paid?
Try using our benefit calculator. It will help you work out how much you may be able to claim (although this is only a guide - what you get may differ).
Do I get my council tax paid as well?
If you qualify for some housing benefit, you may qualify for a proportion of your council tax to be paid as well.
Will I qualify for other benefits?
Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to claim one or a number of housing and / or other benefits. Go to the housing benefit section of the Nottingham City Council website to find out more.
