Gas servicing

We carry out around 25,000 gas services every year for our tenants and leaseholders.

Gas servicing - 0115 915 2552gas vans

We arrange appointments for services with the customer in advance by sending a letter. This gives you a date and time period allocation on a weekday. Our engineers carry ID badges at all times and are in clearly marked Nottingham City Homes vans.

What do I do when I get my letter?

If the appointment time is convenient you don't need to do anything but make sure you are at home at the time specified. If you can't be in, arrange for another adult to be at your home to wait in for the gas engineer. If this date is not convenient, you can always ring us up and arrange an appointment which is more convenient to you.

What if I miss an appointment?

We can only carry out a gas service if there is an adult at the propery. Unfortunately we still have 8,000 failed appointments every year. This is time we could be using to do other work for you or your friends. The most common reasons for failed appointments are:

  • no adult at the property
  • no gas in the propery/meter not connected
  • you were out at the time of the appointment because you forgot we were coming

If you are at home on the first appointment we will put you into a prize draw to win £100. So, no reason to be out!

What if I refuse access when I have made an appointment or avoid having a gas service done?

It is a legal requirement to make sure that all our gas appliances are serviced one a year by our qualified Gas Safe installers. Your safety is our priority which is why we do servicing. Our engineers will leave your gas appliances in full working order and clear up after themselves. There will shortly be a service standard for gas servicing for you to look at.

We will do all we can to give you an appropriate appointment. By missing a number of appointments and not giving us access to your home:

  • you are risking carbon monoxide poisoning
  • you are acting unlawfully
  • we may have to take legal action and break into your home with the police as a last resort. You will have to pay for any repairs this causes.

How you can help us

  • Let us know as soon as possible if the appointment we make for you is not appropriate - even if something comes up at the last minute.
  • Keep the Landlord Servicing Certificate we leave you in a safe place where you can find it again
