Leaving your property

When you leave your home, we expect that it is left in a good condition.

We will then prepare the property for the next person who bids using Nottingham HomeLink.

It is important for our tenants and the community as a whole that we do everything we can to re-let our empty properties as quickly as possible.

By the end of March 2008 we had 425 'void' properties, compared to 619 at the start of April 2007 - a 31% reduction. This is a significant reduction, which has not only benefited applicants trying to find the right home, but also the surrounding community. Empty homes can attract vandalism and anti-social behaviour.

A focus on improving sheltered accommodation has helped us to reduce the number of long term void properties (those empty for longer than six months) from 179 to 82.

Because we have manged to reduce the number of void (empty) properties, people are occupying them earlier. This means we have been able to raise more than £500,000 in extra rent payments, which we are now investing in further service improvements.

Abandoned properties

Unfortunately, some of our tenants just leave their properties, often without telling us. It may be some time before we find out. This means that someone on our waiting list may have to wait longer before they get a home.
