Common questions - digital TV installation
Changing from analogue to digital TV is really a simple process.
Take a look the questions below in case you have any queries about how it all works.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is digital TV covered under my existing TV licence? | Yes the current TV licence allows your digital services. |
| Why do I need another outlet plate? | The current communal aerial system provided by Virgin will not work after the digital switchover. The new installation will provide a connection for either a set top box, an Integrated TV set or a Satellite receiver, without this new outlet the reception you receive will not work. |
| Will I have to cancel my Virgin contract? | No, this installation will be independent from Virgin’s equipment. |
| What is a set top box? | This is a small box which looks like a DVD player. It sits next to your television and converts the digital signal into a form that the old style analogue televisions can understand. This means you don’t have to buy a new digital TV. You will need one for each TV set in your house and they cost from approximately £25 each. |
| I don't have a TV, only a radio - how does it affect me? | Eventually, analogue radio will be switched off and everybody will listen digitally, whether it’s through a DAB digital radio, via a digital TV system or via a DAB/wi-fi radio. But this is not likely to happen for many years. DAB and analogue radio will sit side by side until the government decides DAB coverage, products and programming has matured enough to be accessible to the vast majority of the population. The new system is DAB and FM compatible. |
| When will it be finished? | The installation programme for all our properties connected to the communal aerial will be completed by October 2010. Take a look at the map to see when yours will be done. |
| Who is included? | The installation programme will be carried out where there is already a communal aerial installed in a flat or maisonette. |
| I'm a leaseholder - how does it affect me? | Where an installation is carried out within a communal area a charge of up to £250 will be charged per leasehold property. |
| Who will carry out the work? | Commercial Television Systems (UK) Ltd (CTS), have been appointed as the contractor to complete the work. They are approved by the Confederation of Aerial Industries (CAI) and Sky. CTS is a quality led business, providing consultation and installation of advanced aerial, satellite, security and audio systems within government and commercial establishments throughout the UK. CTS can be contacted on 0800 019 7260. |
