The crowds really turned out at The Bulwell Academy on Saturday (15 September), when more than 1,600 residents descended on the fifth annual Fun Day, hosted by Nottingham City Homes (NCH).
As well as having the chance to meet furry animals from White Post Farm, characters from Star Wars, sit in the famous Delorean from Back to the Future, watch live music, take part in swing dancing and lots more, it was also a chance for residents to meet with NCH in an informal and relaxed setting and talk about what’s important to them – including help with rents and repairs, housing options and lots of help with employment and training opportunities.
This year was an extra special Fun Day, as NCH celebrates being named UK Landlord of the Year 2018.
The event had something for everyone, as residents and their families took part in lots of free activities. There was everything from face painting to sitting inside the famous Delorean car from Back to the Future and meeting some furry friends from White Post Farm. Plus the Literacy Trust gave away 500+ free children’s books.
On the day there was also Zumba, live music, magic shows, crazy golf, giant bubble making, Lindy Hop Swing dance group, Bingo, have-a-go archery and sports. Residents were also able to get information on how to they can get involved with NCH and their neighbourhood.
NCH staff also took part in the fun with have-a go demonstrations, advice and support on a variety of topics, including housing options, tenant academy opportunities, community mediation, basic repairs and fire safety.
Malcolm Sharp MBE, Chair of the Nottingham City Homes Board, said: “What another fantastic event! It was great to see so many people turn out and help NCH celebrate a brilliant year. The Fun Day is always a popular event and this year was no exception – plus it was lovely to see so many new faces joining us.
“Residents and their families always tell us they have a great time at the Fun Day and it’s a great way for residents to get involved with their local community, and get to know the teams at NCH.”
Bulwell resident, Tony Radford, said: “We had a wonderful time – there was so much to do for all ages. We found out all about the services Nottingham City Homes and other community groups provide for residents like ourselves, and enjoyed the chance to celebrate Nottingham City Homes being named Landlord of the Year.”
Visitors to the Fun Day also enjoyed a free lunch in the events Eat Street area, with everything from Mexican, Asian, Jamaican BBQ and vegetarian foods on offer.
This year’s event was sponsored by TIS, the Fire, Security & Communications Specialists, J Tomlinson, the mechanical and electrical contractor and Marlowe Fire and Security.
