Nottingham City Homes (NCH) tenant Jacqueline signed up for Branching Out Into Work. This four week course is run in partnership between NCH and local training provider Access Training. It offers tenants the opportunity to attend college one day a week to learn employability skills such as CV writing and interview skills.
Jacqueline said: “This programme has been absolutely brilliant. I received an email about it from NCH and immediately signed up as it was just what I needed. The course was so useful and my tutor was fantastic. She explained everything so clearly and taught us some great techniques for interviews and really boosted my confidence with applying for jobs.
The course included work experience placements with NCH’s Home Preparation Team, which carries out deep cleans of empty properties, preparing them to be let again. Along with the training, this gave the tenants the knowledge and the confidence to apply for jobs and atte7nd interviews. Participants are guaranteed a job interview at the end of the four weeks.
Jacqueline said: “The work experience part of the course was also really good as it gives you some experience of the workplace and also lets you see if it is a job you would like to do. I loved it and so couldn’t wait for the interview. I was a little nervous but once I was in there I soon calmed down as I remembered everything I had been taught during the course. We learned how to get ready for an interview so I felt like I was prepared and had the answers to their questions.”
Jacqueline has now been offered a permanent position at Nottingham City Homes as a Home Preparation Officer. She said: “I am so grateful for this opportunity and can’t wait to start work at NCH.”
Sarah Bardens, Employability Skills Trainer from Access Training, said: “From the day she came to enrol, Jacqueline was wonderful to work with. She was always committed and hard-working when in class and thoroughly enjoyed her work experience days. The knowledge and experience she was gaining from her time on the programme was evident in everything she said and did, and I am sure this also showed in her interview, helping her to secure the role. I am confident Jacqueline will be an enormous asset to Nottingham City Homes.”
