An important message about your housing services from the Leader of Nottingham City Council

I am writing to all tenants and leaseholders of Nottingham City Council about steps we are taking to move the housing service currently provided by Nottingham City Homes back into direct management by the council. We will ensure this is done with no negative impact on the services you receive and how you access them.
Why is this happening?
The council has discovered a serious issue with the Housing Revenue Account – money which should only be used on your homes and services – being spent on a range of wider council services.
What are we doing about it?
As well as repaying the money into the Housing Revenue Account, we will also be moving the housing service currently provided by Nottingham City Homes back into direct management by the council.
When will this happen?
We will serve notice on NCH and the housing function will become a council service once again no later than May 2023.
Why are we taking this action?
We believe that these steps will ensure that the Housing Revenue Account will be managed properly in future.
Moving housing services back to the host local authority is now a common practice across the country.
What will happen to NCH services and staff?
Nottingham City Homes has done a lot to improve the quality of homes and services. We will protect your service delivery so that housing patch managers and all of the operational staff that you are familiar with will transfer to the council. You will be able to access the same services on the same numbers, in the same way as you do now.
How can tenants be involved?
We will consult with you in future about any changes or improvements to the housing services you receive to ensure that as tenants and leaseholders you have a direct voice with your landlord, the council, and can put forward ideas on how services can improve.
We are going to be recruiting a Tenants Independent Advisor. This will be an individual or agency that we will appoint, with tenants’ involvement, to act as an independent support to tenants.
