High rise sprinkler installations
"Sprinklers are the most effective way to ensure that fires are suppressed or even extinguished before the fire service can arrive. They save lives and reduce injuries, protect firefighters who attend incidents and reduce the amount of damage to both property and the environment from fire.”
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service
We’ve carried out sprinkler installations and associated fire safety works across all 13 of our high rise blocks. The £8.5m project has been funded by Nottingham City Council, following the Grenfell fire.
- Retrofitting sprinklers in every high rise flat, and in communal areas
- Upgrading existing intercoms and installing new ones
- Upgrading existing tannoys and installing new ones.
NCH had already retrofitted sprinklers in four blocks of low-rise flats before Grenfell, and routinely builds sprinklers in new developments of varying kinds.
The project has a clear Health and Safety record, and by the end of 2020 will have retrofitted sprinklers to over 1,500 properties across Nottingham.
Kelly, high rise resident: “My son has autism and I was not sure how he would handle the works being done in the flat. I just wanted to let you know that the two gentlemen who came to do the work were absolutely fantastic and so understanding with him, there was no tutting or rolling of the eyes or getting frustrated with him – they let him investigate, gave him bits of pipes to play with, and even let him join in when it was safe for him to do so.
It may have taken them a little longer than other jobs, but I just wanted to give them some recognition as they made it a lot more bearable for my son, and in the end he quite enjoyed it. It’s great to see you have such understanding, patient people working for you.
Please pass on my thanks!”
